Note:  Because various 880 Binders are differently equipped, some of these remedies may not apply to your binder.

Nail heading

Cover loose from book

1. Nipper not coming up high enough.
2. Insufficient glue.
3. Glue in pot too cold.
4. Nipper plates not set properly.

1. Readjust nipper.
2. Increase amount of glue on glue rolls.
3. Reset gluepot temperature control.
4. Reset nipper plates.

Cover does not register with book

1. Cover stops set wrong.
2. Clamp stops in wrong position.
3. Cover moved before being applied to book.
4. Operator not feeding book against the clamp stops.

1. Readjust cover stops for cover.
2. Reset clamp stops to center book in clamp.
3. Cover may not lay flat.  Roll cover to lay flat.
4. Pay more attention to keep book against stop.

Glue applied to only small portion of book

1. Book moving in clamp.
2. Glue level low in gluepot.
3. Glue rolls not turning.

1. Increase clamp pressure.
2. Add more glue to pot.
3. Turn on glue pot drive.

Book not being cut clean (pages toward stationary clamp fold over)

1. Saw blade gate worn.
2. Cutters dull.
3. Gate not set correctly.

1. Replace.
2. Re-sharpen or replace.
3. Reset saw gate.

Books stick or stay on delivery chute

1. Glue on delivery chute.
2. Too much glue on book.

1. Remove glue and spray with silicone.
2. Adjust amount of glue on rollers.

Build up of glue on one end of book

1. Speed of glue roll is wrong.

1. If glue build-up is on leading edge, increase the glue roll speed.  If glue build-up is on trailing edge, lower the glue roll speed.

Book is distorted when it gets into delivery

1. Running glue too not.
2. Nipper improperly set.

1. Reduce glue temperature.
2. Readjust nipper setting.

Clamp stops about 3” too far right at nipper

1. 1 ohm resister is not working.
2. 1 ohm potentiometer is not working.

1. Replace resister.
2. Replace potentiometer.

Clamp fails to stop at nipper, delivery or end of cycle

1. Clamp is not activating switch properly at these positions.

1. Readjust switches position or replace if defective.

Book does not drop from clamp and jams on clamp return

1. Not enough time is being allowed for book to drop.
2. Clamp is not properly adjusted for book thickness.
3. Clamp appears to have glue present.

1. Increase time delay.
2. Readjust clamp.
3. Clean all clamping surfaces.

Glue pot will not heat properly

1. Heaters not working properly or low voltage.
2. Fuse blown on temperature controller.

1. Check for burned out heaters and replace if necessary.
2. Replace fuse.

Cutter motor will not start

1. Safety switch is not properly set or cover is off.
2. Heater elements have shut off.

1. Readjust safety switch.
2. Reset starter or timer.

Glue rollers do not turn

1. Drive may not be engaged.
2. Check switch or timer.
3. Check for blown fuse.

1. Open front glue pot door and lifting glue pot with handle.
2. Switch may not be on or timer might have shut the glue rollers down.
3. Replace fuse.

Nipper will not run

1. Switch may be in jog position.
2. Check for blown fuse.

1. Place switch in run position.
2. Replace fuse.

Machine will not cycle

1. Cutter motor must be on.
2. Gluepot must be up to temperature.

1. Turn on cutter motor.
2. Preset gluepot before production.  Glue must be molten before cycling.
